I-Beams:

  • Nebraska basements take a lot of abuse with the frost and water in the sub-soils
  • Typically we see a break in the basement walls a few feet below the first floor joints.
  • This is typically known as the frost line or frost break
  • Wet soils gain a lot of force and apply pressure to the basement walls when the ground freezes
  • We can help install 4″ I-beams.  We typically put one beam on each side of the windows and 4′ on center to pass home inspections for re-sale for basement walls areas that need support
  • To install and I-beam we tear out the floor to get down to the base footing
  • We put the I-Beam on the footing and plum the I-beam the best we can to provide the most support
  • The I-Beam is installed into the floor joists and we use the house to help support the I-beam
  • In the floor joists we frame block to hold the I-beam, sister the floor joists and provide a solid base of support for the I-beam, and also protect the floor joists from spinning.
  • We poured the concrete back along the base to secure base of the I-beam
