Basement Drain-tile / Waterproof:

  • With any water issue that maybe causing flooding of the basement floor people typically in our area lean on  installing drain-tile to waterproof the basement
  • Drain-tile works if installed correctly.
  • People need to understand that drain-tile needs to be installed to properly accept and remove water that may be from the sub-grade coming up, water coming from the footings area, and water coming down the wall.
  • When we install drain-tile here are our steps to make sure it to works:
    • Tear our 18″ of concrete along the area of the house to install drain-tile
    • Dig down approximately 10″; remove the dirt and clean the footing to bare concrete
    • Install drain-tile without sock
    • Install gravel around all tile and allow make sure 1″ of gravel is over the footing
    • Install expansion joint along the wall
    • Pour and trowel the basement floor
  • We make sure the gravel is installed to help drain the water into the tile;  Water from the sub-grade and around the footing will work its way into the tile
  • We make sure expansion joint is between the wall and floor with the gravel bed over the footing for water coming down the wall will run behind the expansion and run under the floor in the gravel bed down to the tile
  • When we plumb the tile, we install a pit and install a check valve on the sump pump.  All plumbing is set to drain with gravity and pumped with a high-end sump pump.
